Large Lightning Strike Quartz Pendant
Lightning Strike Quartz crystals possess surface markings that are believed to be secondary to the changes from electrical discharge from a lightning strike. They are very rare and hard to find. It is thought that lightning strikes on or near the quartz crystal of a colluvial deposit (exposed piles of crystal debris, often at the foot of cliffs). The crystal may undergo structural changes as the electricity rapidly enters and dissipates through it, causing the characteristic layered and deeply etched surface markings. It is the extreme changing voltage of a lightning strike combined with the expansion/contraction that can create the markings.
Pendant measures 3.75 inches long, including the bail.
Unwrapped large lightning strike quartz crystal point measures 65 mm long, 15 mm wide and 15 mm deep; it weighs 21.6 grams. This is a spectacular specimen with a pronounced jagged lightning crackle down its front surface where lightning caused rapid expansion and contraction!
Hand crafted in sterling silver with two antique Venetian glass wedding cake beads (circa early 1900's).
Comes with a chocolate brown satin cord.
